Foster the Children
Hello everyone!
This week, I get to share something a little bit more personal and little less medicine oriented.
My husband and I have been super involved with kids in our own careers for several years now. Separately, we love kids. Together, we adore kids even more.
Two weeks ago, God made the whispers He was speaking to us as individuals turn into shouts that He placed on our hearts together. We felt the call to foster.
The Fears:
Hold up, Lord. What do you mean? We love kids. But bring them into our brand new home with its brand new renovations? Yes. What does God say about helping the widows and the orphans? What does he say about loving your neighbor?
What a second, God. We don't even have our own kids. What do we know about parenting? We may still be young, but it dawned on us that we very well may know more than some of the parents these children are being removed from.
And those are just a few of the fears and doubts running through my brain every few minutes.
But what's it matter? These children need someone. And it would be an absolute sin to ignore this calling. So here we are: Pursuing the Process.
If you have any questions about what that process entails, feel free to ask. We are still learning but our happy to share what we know thus far.
And even amidst all the doubts and questions, these statistics remain the same: https://www.cwla.org/ wp-content/uploads/2017/03/ FLORIDA-1.pdf
In 2015, there were 22,264 children in the state of Florida that were part of the foster care system, which was a 13.2% increase from 2011. The numbers are expected to continue rising in the next review scheduled for 2019.
Kids need our help. Families need our help. And I challenge you, if you have ever thought about it at all as as possibility, do a little research and see if it may be the right fit for you. You can change the life of a child. Even if it is just one child, that's enough. Especially if we all start to step up.
